‘Yarn Therapy’ Teaches Brownies how to Knit Patches to make Charity Baby Blankets

It started with a couple of customers in the shop looking for some double knitting yarn and needles. It transpired that their daughters were in the local Brownies – ‘4th and 5th Great Baddow’, who were going to be taught how to knit. Doug from Yarn Therapy Shop contacted the leader Judith to find out if he could help in anyway. The aim was for the Brownies to knit 6" squares which would be sewn together to make baby blankets and these would then be given to Christian Hope International for Children in Africa.

BlanketKnitters from Yarn Therapy’s ‘Knit and Natter’ group helped teach the Brownies how to knit and Doug volunteered to sew the squares together. In total 272 squares were sewn together making up 6 blankets. The blankets are now on route to Africa. More squares have since been completed and Doug is planning to make up another blanket to have on display at the Creative Crafts Show 16th – 18th February. Visitors are encouraged to bring 6” knitted squares with them to hand in at the Yarn Therapy stand so more blankets can be made.

Yarn Therapy will be hosting a range of knitting and crochet workshops for the first time at the Show. Places will be limited and booked on a first come first served basis from the workshop booking point.
